Kids In The Community Trust # CC43774

Media release

8th March 2010.

Kidz First Children’s Hospital Emergency Department were delighted today when they were presented with an infant mannequin by representatives from local Kids in Cars charity.

The mannequin is designed for scenario based training for a number of situations including catheterization, tracheotomy’s and IV insertion.

Emergency nurse educator, Cate Flecknety was thrilled to receive her new training tool.

“We can do such a large variety of procedures on the baby, and it really gives the staff an opportunity to practise procedures and build confidence”.

Senior Medical Officer, Shane Greaves was also on hand to accept the donation,

“Tools like this are great to teach procedures that are not commonly done”, he said.

The department staff has named the mannequin HUGGI, after one of the major sponsors.

Nigel Karl, Chair of the Kids in Cars charity explained how the $5300.00 was raised.

“We are just a group of guys that are passionate about cars and car racing, but we also have a social conscience and decided to raise money to give something back”.

“Last October we had a Fun Day at Pukekohe Racecourse and were able to raise this money and also give some kids from Kidz First Community a pass so all their activities for the day were free – the smiles on their faces made all the stress of organizing a huge event worthwhile”.

Kids in Cars also received support from James [Huggi] Urquhart of Wild Card Racing in Karaka, who paid for the hire of the racecourse.

“I have two healthy kids and a keen interest in car racing”, said James, “this is just a small thing I can do to help the kids in our community”.

Good morning all,car fans young and old!

As you know, here at KIC we're crazy about our cars and trucks just ask the folks at

Aviva car insurance  but what we're really crazy about is bringing a smile

to the faces of these brave kids. KIC was asked to help out young Josh yesterday,

he is living with cancer and he has an 8% chance of coming through this terrible illness.JOSH IS THE RIPE OLD AGE OF 13 !!!!

Nigel was called on Monday night by a frantic Chris Robbins from

John Andrew Ford Josh was arriving from Palmerston North on Tuesday morning

at 8.30 for a day out at Pukekohe Park with Fabian Coulthard.

The only problem was that the car that had been organized to take Josh for a ride

was no longer available – due to a medical illness with the owner’s family.

So as we say I “KICed” into action, many phone calls later

we had not one car but four.

KIC would like to express their thanks to Geri from Punch, Tracey and Angus Fogg

Tthe The from LG NZ, and the lads from the motor sport fraternity

Craig Corliss – it was Craig’s AU Falcon Supercar that Josh went for a spin in.

Josh has made a “Bucket List” and he is also making a Documentary about himself

one of his items on his bucket List was to go around Pukekohe in a race car.

We all arrived at the track at 10.00am and Josh interviewed Fabian.

Josh has got great talent and could have a job as a TV presenter.

After a couple of fun runs in the K.I.C.

car and the LG shadow car, the real fun was about to start.

Craig Corliss arrived with an AU Falcon – an ex V8 supercar

after he prepared the car, Josh and Fabian went fora spin.

As you can see the photos tell it all.

This day was filmed by the crew of “Close Up”. This is to be aired either tonight  Wednesday or tomorrow night – please make sure that you can watch this show,

and you can see Josh’s fun day at the track.

K.I.C. would again express their thanks to all those people and companies that

came to the rescue of young josh to make this day happen for him..
